Vintage Watercolor Floral

Hello and I hope you are having a nice weekend!  Today I had a fun time doing the Vintage Watercolor look a la Heather Telford's technique.  You can find her tutorial here on her blog and look further, because this past week she shared a lot more projects along the same lines.

(Click on photos for more detail.)

This technique was a lot easier than I thought it would be by just sortof trying some of the things I saw in the video.  I think stamp selection makes it easier.  I used Distress Ink in Tea Dye to stamp with and lots of sponging, and various brown and black water-based markers to accent (I used more than one only because I found several of mine had dried up.). I also used one pink watercolor pencil.

All of the stamped lines were just brushed out with water using a waterbrush and then pink color was added where I wanted it.  The other colors came from the brown and black markers.  When you add water, the colors just separate out. If you want to learn a little science, here is a link about paper chromatography.  I used to teach this to kids as part of a science program.

Supplies: Gina K Designs Sending Love and Art from the Heart Stamp sets, Distress Tea Dye ink, Versfine Smokey Grey inkpad, GKD Innocent Pink cardstock, Spellbinders Fancy Frame Labels Two, Waterbrush, Watercolor Pencil

I just can't get over how beautifully this turned out, I didn't feel well last night so I didn't get a chance to try it out but I am hoping for this afternoon.
