Back to School Cards - 2020 Style

When I saw this new stamp set from Stampendous House Mouse, I knew I had to have it.  I love the cute mice in masks, and thought that they would, at least, work great for Back to School cards.  I don’t always send cards, but I think that today’s kids need a little extra encouragement to move into this strange new year.

For this batch, I stamped on patterned papers and colored with pencils.  I used a variety of dies and patterned papers from my stash to make them looks school related. I also have several sets of stamps that are school related, so I used little elements to further the school theme and personalize them.

I’d like to enter these into the House Mouse Challenge this week, Simon Says Stamp’s Wednesday Challenge (Anything Goes) and with Word Art Wednesday

Purple Roses

I started this card by heat embossing the decorative iron stamp on regular white cardstock.  I then sponged over top with Distress Oxide ink, light blue in the center and periwinkle around the outside.

I stamped my main image, June’s Rose, and then colored the leaves and stems first with colored pencils.  Then I used shimmery chalks to color the flowers.  That is always a fast way to color. I fussy cut this out.

Finally, I heat embossed my sentiment on black and popped it up over the images.

You can buy the stamps I used on this card in the I Brake for Stamps store. As always you can save 10% on your entire order by using my code SAVE10HEIDI.

Wine Card Series

I am starting a few card sets for Christmas gifts.  One of the themes is wine. I expect that most of the cards will be flat for mailing, and all different from one another.  I also will be making paper boxes for them.

Here is the first in the wine set:

I created a distress oxide background on watercolor paper, die cut it, then stamped over top with dark brown distress oxide.  (The stamp is from Just for Fun.) The background paper is not only wine colored, it is also shimmery!  It looks really neat in person. I embossed this and then covered the exposed white core with brown ink.

Let’s Celebrate with Lanterns!

Hello!  The Free 4 All Friday challenge at SplitCoastStampers has a theme of Labor Day today.

My family used to go to a lake every Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day.  Each holiday had a special event, one being the Lantern Night.  Everyone would decorate their boat dock or another part of their property with lanterns.  Then, that night, you would get in your boat and drive around slowly to view them.  It was fun!

My card uses this fun Lantern stamp from Unity (Good Things Begin) over a Bubble Background (see my post here for instructions. This one uses perfect pearls powder in the water).  The background paper is a metallic linen.

I think this card would work well as a birthday card for just about any recipient.

Thanks for visiting today!  Have a good day!

Drum Themed Card

Hello everyone! I hope you are doing well.  We actually traveled last week and I didn’t have internet and barely had any cell service.  I am looking forward to catching up with your blogs.  Thank you for all the kind comments you left here while I was away.

Today I am sharing a cool card I make for a drum-loving kid!  I think I will use this for his birthday.

The background was made with Colorburst Liquid Metals and cling wrap.  You can find the instructions here.  (And you can use all kinds of mediums for the background.)

I stamped the drum image from I Brake for Stamps Music Sheet set with Versafine black ink, and then heat embossed with sparkle embossing powder.  In real life, the image looks crisp, but then when the light hits it, you see all the sparkle.  I also stamped a couple music notes on the background to balance out the space in that corner and add to the theme of the card.

The sentiments are from the large Inspirational Phrases set. I stamped another phrase from the set inside, over top of a lightly stamped music notes.  As always, you can save 10% on your purchase from I Brake for stamps with my code SAVE10HEIDI.

Cloudy Sky with a Die Cut

Hello!

I would like to share a little tip for getting a pretty cloudy sky for your stamped image.  Use a scalloped die cut. I used these ovals, in two sizes.  That way I have a smaller scallop and a larger one.  (I think I first heard this tip from stamping friend Shirley.)
I used a sponge and tumbled glass distress ink to light stencil over this home made mask.  You could easily use a circle, but the I picked the oval so I would have more angles to use.  It also feels good to get more use out of my dies.

I then just stamped over top with my silhouette meadow flowers, sponging some green from below.

The stamps I used are Half Sheet 137A, and Thank You sentiment. (As always, you can save 10% at I Brake for Stamps using my code SAVE10HEIDI)

Christmas Card Roundup

Hello!  I realized there are several Christmas cards I made in recent months that I haven’t shared here.  I am getting behind on my Christmas card goal, but I still am working on it.

This first set was really easy. I just heat embossed the Hero Arts background stamp in white and used different blue distress oxides to sponge an ombré look.

This next card was made with bits and pieces leftover from other projects.  The cardinal is Just for Fun and the pine cones CTMH.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Music Collage Thank You

Hello!  There are a bunch of musicians in my family so I am often drawn to the music themed stamps. I like this collage stamp because it is a little different.

I stamped onto pink cardstock and then distressed the edges of all my papers with brown ink.  I also added some water marks to age the stamped image further.

This Music Collage set has some wonderful sentiments, but right now I need Thank You notes so I used this sentiment stamp inside instead. As always, you can save 10% off your order at I Brake for Stamps using my code SAVE10HEIDI.

Watercolor Thank You card

Hello! I have a quick share today of a Thank You card.

I used some OLD stamps from Gina K called Whimsical Spring and also an OLD sentiment set from Hero Arts.

I inked the leaves up with three colors of Distress Oxide - Bundled Sage, Scattered Straw and Peeled Paint.  I then used a damp paintbrush to add water to the ink to smooth it out a little.  I sponged the edge with the lighter green and splattered some of the darker green all over the panel.

I like how it turned out!

Thanks for stopping by today!  We had a ton of rain from the storm but no damage and we do still have power.  A lot of people have flooded houses, and there were several tornados, so we are very lucky!
